Description: Killowen Distillery have followed on from their previous Belfast Whiskey Week Exclusive bottlings, and have used the same 11 year old Northern Single Malt as before with the whiskey being held in an Oloroso Sherry cask that has had a strong influence. They then finished the liquid in Killowen Cúige Firkin, which has imparted a nice smokey turfed finish providing balance and complexity to the whiskey. Killowen Distillery is situated beside the Mourne Mountains of County Down. It is one of Ireland’s smallest distilleries and is hoping to bring back some heritage Irish whiskey styles to the market. The distillery has even experimented with drying their own barley with peat smoke like our Scottish counterparts.
