Description: A Balblair 5 year old from the 1980s imported to Italy by Spirit Import, Genoa. The distillery was sold in 1970 to Hiram Walker (future Allied Distillers), which also owns the Ballantine’s blend, hence the statement “From the House of Ballantine’s” on the label, reflecting the supposed pre-eminence of blends over single malts. As was often the case at the time, this is a young whisky, which suited Italian tastes, as Armando Giovinetti had noticed. Many other examples are found from other distilleries like Glen Grant, for whom Giovinetti was the agent in Italy.
